On-Campus Housing at York University
York University itself is a great place to spend your time while you’re not in class — but of course the city of Toronto offers countless attractions, activities, and living opportunities for those students who prefer to live off-campus. Let’s take a few minutes to explore what you can do to expand your horizons outside of the classroom.
York University is home to over 50,000 students—and that means that there’s always something fun, interesting, or enlightening going on. Whether you’re participating in the YorkFest Festival Village and Concert in September or learning about a new culture during Multicultural Week in February, there’s something to whet any intellectual appetite. If you’re in the mood for a show, you can visit one of the many stage performances at the Accolade Theatres on campus, swing by the Underground student pub, or get a much-needed caffeine boost at the Absinthe Pub and Coffee Shop.
York Lanes is one of the most popular destinations for shoppers right here on campus—this on-campus mall contains the York University Bookstore, medical and dental clinics for common procedures like dental cleaning, salons for haircuts, and plenty of restaurants and shops. You’ll have access to exceptional customer service through the on-site staff, and the building offers controlled access as well.
Additionally, students will have access to The Quad — found on the university’s Keele campus, this area features two new buildings with over 800 new bedrooms. Landscaped courtyards and large communal areas are available for use as well. Located at the corner of The Pond Road and Sentinel Road, The Quad is available for pre-lease in fall of 2016 and will open in summer 2017.
At York University, you’ll also have easy access to public transit, including a brand new subway stop. If you’re itching to explore the city, you’ll be just a short bus or train ride to anywhere in the city.
If you’d like to venture outside campus, Toronto is a very busy, diverse, and fascinating city. Whether you’re interested in music, museums, or shopping, there’s almost certainly going to be a destination that you and other students will enjoy. There are countless attractions both local and visiting which frequent the city and plenty of culturally enriching opportunities to be found—you won’t have to look far for something to do in Toronto.
For those students who would like to take advantage of the affordable and comfortable on-campus housing at York University, you’ll find spacious, quiet rooms are available for members. Rooms have been designed to promote light socializing, good sleep, and of course, an ideal environment for studying or relaxing during your off hours.
