Should You Live at Home Throughout College?

Commuting from home once you join college has its pros and cons. The pros are more if your home is close to your college. However, when you think of it, it makes more sense to live in York University housing than having to commute to and from home every day. This post takes a look at the pros and cons of living at home when in college. It will help you determine if the option is better.

Pros

– Save money

One of the key benefits of living at home is that you get to save money which would otherwise have been used to pay for the room and board. As a matter of fact, when you compare the cost of boarding to that of gas/transport, boarding is more expensive. This is unless you live pretty far from campus.

– Get sick less often

Living in a confined space such as in the dorm with many other students who might be ill increases your chances of getting sick. Students who commute from home and those living in apartments near York University fall sick less often.

– Less distractions

When living at home, you will not have to deal with the pressure of going out and hanging with everyone. Living at home hence makes it easier for a student to focus on their studies.

– Home cooked meals

When living in York housing, you have to fend for yourself. Cooking is not always an option. There is a lot of work involved. You either rely on the cafeteria or turn to junk foods. At home, you will enjoy nutritious home cooked meals.

– Adjusting to a full-time job is easy

After graduating, you will be able to adjust to working on a full time basis much easier. This is because you are already accustomed to waking up early and commuting on a daily basis.

Cons

– Commuting is stressful and time consuming

Commuting involves dealing with the morning traffic. You will also have to waste time searching for a parking space. Living in student housing York University makes more sense if you will be having more early morning classes.

– Life in college is for those who live on campus

There are so many activities to engage in when in college. Even when living at home, you will be forced to engage in some of the activities. All this will cause you to get home late. Living on campus makes it easy for you to be in a sorority, hangout more with friends and participate in other activities that go way into the night.

– Miss out the dorm fun

Students in the dorms have more fun especially when you consider the games they play and the parties. If you are a fun loving guy, you should consider campus living.

As you can see, each option has its share of pros and cons. Your personality is, however, what will help determine which option is best for you. If you are not into parties, for example, you will not miss a lot of dorm fun if you choose to commute from home.
