Student Checklist before Going Home for Christmas

You probably can’t wait to pack up, say goodbye to your college friends and rush home for Christmas. But hold on and go through the to-do list below to help you plan better for the coming weeks.

Plan your travel

Making early bookings will save you a lot of money in the long run. Tickets are generally cheaper if you book weeks before you travel. In fact, as soon as you’re sure of the dates you will be traveling, book tickets. Avoid peak times and try to be as flexible as possible if you want to save on travel costs. In fact, most train ticket websites allow one to make bookings 12 weeks in advance. You may even end up saving almost half the price when you book early.

Get the work done

You may have a few deadlines to beat just after the holidays. We suggest taking time in school, say a day or two after you close to finish up the work. The last thing you want while on holiday is to be stressed about school work and approaching deadlines. Furthermore, when everyone is merrymaking, you won’t be in the mood to do any work.

Don’t carry too much luggage

Many students can’t help but carry half of their wardrobe when they go for Christmas. Avoid this if you want to save on baggage costs and avoid the inconvenience of having to carry around too much when you travel. It’s going to be hectic trying to fit a heavy bag on the train carriage or a rammed coach.

Do your Christmas shopping online

The beauty of shopping for your Christmas gifts online is that you won’t have to spend time walking around from store to store in search for the best deals. You’ll also save yourself the energy of having to carry the presents home. Additionally, you won’t need to rush like everyone else who is buying their gifts last minute. When shopping online, look for the best deals for students to pick great value presents.

Write down what you’ve already bought

You may have already done some Christmas shopping while at school. Make sure you have all that written down somewhere so you don’t waste money the next time you go shopping. It can be difficult to keep track of things you bought a few months before so make sure you take note. In fact, work with a gift list to help you stay on track when it’s Christmas.

Take down Christmas decorations

If you have a tree and other Christmas decorations in your dorm or apartment, take them down before you leave for the holidays. The last thing you want is to spend your first few minutes next year when you arrive, pulling down Christmas decorations. You don’t need to deal with the Christmas blues when you get to school and these decorations could be a reminder of the fun you’ve left back at home. Be sure to pull them down before you leave.
