Comedy Bar

This simply but aptly named comedy club is exactly where you need to go if you are looking for sketches, improv and stand-up comedy. There is a little bit of everything for everyone here. Kristen Rasmussen, Kyle Dooley and other professionals have performed here, much to the thrill of the audience who are guaranteed a good laugh.

Second City

If you are in the market for a quiet stand-up act that screams of confidence and belly-deep laughter, this is the place to go to. If you have already seen their ads you may have figured by now that this place doesn’t play. If not, time to start looking. Ideal for that quiet evening where you just want a good laugh, alone or with someone.

Yuk Yuk’s

You’ve moved to Toronto, rent apartment near York U, started your journey as a student and discovered that you want to start a second parallel journey as a stand-up comedian. Yuk Yuk’s is the place for you. This is where amateur comedians start their journey and are nurtured, in front of large audiences that even some pro comedians would envy.

Absolute Comedy

This comedy club was designed with stand-up comedy in mind. As such, the focus of the club is on the comedian. There’s not many clubs in this area, but you can bet that the Absolute Comedy club is about as good as it gets.

Bad Dog Theatre

Originally, the Bad Dog Theatre Company ran some sort of partnership with the Comedy Bar, teaching and performing improve. With time however, there was need for the Bad Dog to break out and break free, and break they did. While still in partnership with the Comedy Bar, they set up shop on the opposite side of the Ossington station and the rest is history!

Social Capital Theatre

This place not only offers a space for comedians to hold their shows, but also offers comedy classes as well. This is another good place to start if you wish to venture away from your York University residence and into some comedy inspiration for your stand-up journey. You will feel right at home.

The Corner

This club is named after the 90’s Toronto fixture Speaker’s Corner. The club has established itself as a space for raw and uncensored stand-up, and based on the loyal following it has attracted so far I guess you could say that strategy is working.

120 Diner

This place is home for both established and up-and-coming comedians. The owner, Mandy Goodhandy has done well to encourage upcoming acts, and you can bet that this place will continue to grow in popularity as the years go by.
