Getting fresh produce, organic meat and freshly baked goods is a dream come true for most people, especially those who enjoy cooking. When you’re not running between your York University residence and class, consider stocking up on your groceries by visiting these farmers markets.

St. Lawrence Market

If you are busy throughout the week but available on Saturdays, make your way down to the St Lawrence Market. On Saturdays, the market has an additional white tent just south of the main market where farmers sell fresh produce. You can get local cheese, fruits, vegetables, flowers and even baked goods, enough to last you as long as you want or at least until the next Saturday.

Leslieville Farmers Market

Every Sunday from May to October, the Leslieville Farmers Market takes over Jonathan Ashbridge Park, providing residents of Toronto with an array of fresh, organic produce. What’s more, the market also offers hot items such as tacos to ensure you shop on a full stomach and there’s live music too.

Evergreen Brick Works

While it’s always a great idea to visit Brick Works, going there on Saturdays and Sundays guarantees you fresh produce courtesy of the weekly farmers’ market. Besides stocking up on your fresh produce, you can also indulge in the delicious hot food on sale.

The Stop’s Farmer’s Market at Artscape Wychwood Barns

Most farmers markets tend to close shop during the colder months. Not this one. This market runs all year round on Saturdays from 8am to 1pm. You are guaranteed fresh produce all year round if you make it a habit to visit the Artscape Wychwood market every weekend or two. You don’t have to survive on noodles or break your bank getting food. It cost you enough to rent apartment near York U; it should not cost you a fortune to feed yourself.

Dufferin Grove Farmers’ Market

This market is open on Thursdays from 3pm to 7pm and runs all year around, providing the communities around with fresh fruits and vegetables. Now there is no excuse not to have fresh produce for dinner.

Sorauren Farmers’ Market

This market is a brainchild of the West End Food Co-op, and runs weekly. There’s plenty of fresh food and yummy treats on offer.

Junction Farmers Market

This market runs from May to November every Saturday from 9am to 1pm. On top of fresh produce, you can find prepared food and wine. Grab your girlfriends for brunch and grocery shopping at the Junction Farmers’ Market. You will be glad you took a break from your York U housing.

East Lynn Farmers’ Market

This farmers’ market that is located on the east side of Toronto is a great way to keep your pantry and belly stocked up. It runs on Thursdays from 3pm to 7pm at the East Lynn Park.

Humber Bay Shores Farmers’ Market

The weekly market was started by the Humber Bay Shores Condominium Association and runs every Saturday from early June to mid-October. It’s location is the Humber Bay Park West.
