Fears About University That You Might Be Faced With

Joining university is an overwhelming time in most students’ lives. For starters, there is the transition from depending on your parents for help with day-to-day tasks to independent living and lots of freedom. For many students, living away from home invokes feelings of homesickness and sometimes, utter loneliness. On top of all these, there are several fears most students have to grapple with when they join university-and these are based either on what they have heard from older students, or information that is freely available in society regarding the experience that is college.

Here are some of the fears that students cite as their biggest fears about university:

Living Away From Home

As mentioned before, living away from home is a huge adjustment for most students who have grown accustomed to having mom and dad do most of the chores for them. The assurance of a parent’s presence is something you will definitely miss. However, with time you will get used to running your life without your parents’ help, a skill that will definitely come in handy when you finally get a job and start living on your own.

Running Out Of Money

This is a fear that is shared not just by students by working adults as well! Running out of money is not pretty. Fortunately, there are things you can do about it, and one such is taking up a part time job. What’s more, the experience will do you and your CV some much needed good.

Fitting In

Whenever one moves to a new place, there is always that fear that perhaps they will not make enough or any friends. At university, as in most places, making friends will require that you be a nice person and put yourself out there. Join clubs and societies and get out of your dorm room. Before you know it, you will have plenty of friends, some of who will last a lifetime.

Paying Back The Debt

Everyone knows that college tuition is expensive, and there are not enough grants or scholarships to cover everyone who would wish to have one. However, this should not deter you from enrolling in college and going for your dreams. College debt does not affect your credit rating, and you only start to pay it back when you start earning a stipulated amount per year. While this is a valid fear, you should not let it overshadow the value of a college education or even stop you from enjoying your time in college.

What You’ll Do With The Degree Afterwards

This is quite a common fear for most students-the worry that they might be investing a whole lot of money and time pursuing a degree that will only be decorative at best. This is a fear that is best addressed at the application stage, while you still have time to research the employability stats of the universities you are considering.

There are definitely more fears about university that students deal with. The trick is to research any misgivings you may have so that you are armed with the right information. And remember that if millions of students have survived the phase, then so will you!
