Studying can be stressful especially for students who just joined college. A lot of time and energy is devoted to the learning process. It may also be the first time away from home. Having to balance between school work, visiting family and extra curriculum activities can be quite a hustle. It even becomes more hectic for those who have to study and work. Here’s how to cope:

Get financial support

University fees can be high and this is why most students get stressed. Some students have to work more than one job and this leaves them drained. Before you join college, look for scholarships that you qualify for. You should also consider students’ loans that are available in your state. Student loans are repaid once you have completed your studies. You can take a job as you wait for your college application to go through. This will help you save up for your expenses.

Prepare yourself mentally

Being away from friends and family can cause one to be stressed. You are likely to feel homesick especially in the first semester when you get away from home. You should prepare yourself mentally so as to avoid homesick related stress.

Get out and have fun

When you go to college, don’t just stay confined in your room. Get out and socialize and make new friends on campus. Join clubs that allow you to showcase your talents. When you are happy, your mind will be distracted and you will lower your chances of getting stressed.

Dedicate most of your time to your studies

You should dedicate most of your time to academic success. Make sure that you attend all your lectures, submit your assignments in time and study thoroughly for your exams. Make use of the institution’s library and computer labs. This will lessen the anxiety related to studies.

Get some good sleep

If you don’t get enough sleep, you increase your chances of being stressed. Clean your room and buy comfortable bedding to allow you to rest well at night. If you have a roommate, tell him or her to maintain calm when you are resting. You should get at least eight hours of uninterrupted sleep every night.

Eat healthy and drink enough water

You may be tempted to take junk diets especially to cope with being away from home. Sweet and high calorie foods may give you comfort in the short run but you will end up stressed in the long run. Fruits and vegetables will boost the body’s immunity and lower the risk of stress.

Exercise daily

Being physically active can reduce the levels of stress. When you exercise the production of endorphins in the body is increased which boosts your mood. And you need not go to the gym to exercise. You can jog or walk for a few minutes. Stretching or taking dance lessons are also a good way to exercise.
