As a way to ensure that students are up to date with the year’s calendar of events, we have made sure to prepare an all-inclusive list of all 2018-2019 holidays so that students can organize themselves comprehensively for the remaining time they have at school this current year.
The list goes as follows
This holiday is a celebration of Canada’s national day. It is a statutory holiday meaning that all workers and in this case students are entitled to a day off from their regular jobs/activities. It celebrates the day Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and the Province of Canada merged to form a single dominion presently known as Canada.
Civic holiday is not a statutory holiday in Manitoba and Nova Scotia, but in Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Prince Edward Island, the citizens take this day to be a holiday. It was declared as a holiday in order to celebrate the different cultural traditions of Albertans.
For many Canadian citizens, Labor Day is the holiday to unwind and relax. It’s also a great time for students to take a vacation or to hold a party before school re-opens. This holiday occurs in September, the first Monday. The aim of the holiday is to celebrate and to campaign for better workers’ rights through picnics and parades formulated by trade unions.
On this day, Canadians give thanks for a prosperous year and a good harvest. This is a statutory holiday celebrated on the second Monday, in the month of October, in all other states except Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick.
It’s a holiday for all Christians around the world to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Canadians enjoy this period to take time off with family and friends, to exchange gifts, and to share with each other festive meals. New Year is another holiday that follows a little after Christmas. It is a time when people reflect over the past year’s events and celebrate the beginning of a new year.
Family day is not a statutory holiday in all provinces in Canada. In fact, most workers still go to work on this day, making this holiday more of a civic holiday. Even so, people consider it to be a public holiday in some areas, and in such areas, people take it as the day to spend time with family, to share, and to enjoy with them.
As this is a big holiday for Christians all around the world, Good Friday is celebrated as a statutory holiday all over Canada. In the areas where Family day is not celebrated, Good Friday is considered as the first holiday to take place after New Year.
Considered as the beginning of the summer season by Canadians, this federal holiday is celebrated in recognition of the birthday of Queen Victoria. The holiday is one that is distinctly observed by Canadians and it is followed through in all three territories.
In addition to the above holidays, it is always best to know the York University residence holiday so that you organize yourself properly.
